Featured Crystal of the Month

This month’s crystal is one of my favourite colours – beautiful turquoise blue Chrysocolla. Its calming and restorative vibes are perfect to combine with end-of-year downtime.

Let’s start off with what Chrysocolla is.

Chrysocolla is a secondary mineral, which means that a transformation process (e.g. heat, pressure or weathering) occurred and led to its formation. It forms in the oxidation zones of copper ore bodies. It’s the copper that gives Chrysocolla its colour.

These rich mineral zones are also where we see Chrysocolla’s ‘friends’ as I call them – the secondary copper group of minerals. They include AzuriteMalachiteCupritePlancheiteShattuckite and Tenorite, among others.

We generally see Chrysocolla form in three ways: As botryoidal (rounded masses or bubbly crusts), gel-like (also called ‘glassy’) and as a flat layer (e.g. coating a matrix or running in veins through it).

Communication, Expression of the Sacred, Goddess, Gentleness, Power, Tranquility, Inner Strength, Self Awareness

  • Chrysocolla is a tranquil and sustaining stone.
  • It draws off negative energies of all kinds within the home.
  • Chrysocolla can help you accept constantly changing situations with serenity, invoking great inner strength.
  • It assists with relationships that have become rocky.
  • It can calm, cleanse and re-energize the chakras.
  • Chrysocolla is said to draw out negative emotions like guilt, and reverse destructive emotional programming.
  • Heals heartache.
  • Encourages self-awareness.
  • Enhances personal power.

This month’s featured book is one of my personal favourite go-to’s: The Complete Book of Incense, Oils and Brews by Scott Cunningham.

If you enjoy working with the plant kingdom (as herbs, oils or incense) energetically then you will love this.

It has recipes dating back hundreds of years, modern-day substitutions and how to get started making your own recipes.

Scott Cunningham has been one of my favourite authors for many years. I love his conversational style while conveying an enormous amount of research and wisdom. I’ve been working on new recipes for our Spirit Range and once again pouring through this book. Highly recommend.

Wheel of the Year Newsletter banner

The Wheel of the Year is an ancient calendar that marks and celebrates the season changes and the equinoxes, the movement of our earth in its relationship to the sun, warmth and cold, light and dark. LEARN MORE.

Following the change in seasons and tapping back into the rhythms of the natural world can help give your life more meaning, and help you be more present in the natural world and in your body.

On the Wheel of the Year, here in the Southern Hemisphere, we will be celebrating the Summer Solstice on 21 December.

This is the time of the greatest abundance of life and food for the entire Wheel of the Year. The Summer Solstice marks the longest day and shortest night of the year.

  • Gold, yellow and orange colours decorate the festivities, along with plenty of Summer flowers.
  • Traditionally people stayed up all night on Midsummer’s Eve to welcome and watch the sunrise.
  • Bonfires were lit to honour the fullness of the Sun.
  • People danced around the fires and leapt through them.
  • Blazing herbs from the sacred bonfire were used to bless the animals (as well as chase off pests and parasites).
  • Coals from the Midsummer fire were scattered on fields to ensure a good harvest.

Here are some activities you can do to celebrate the Solstice:

  • Light candles scented with citrus or fresh herbs
  • See the sun rise & set
  • Leave milk out for the fae
  • Decorate your home in Litha colours (red, orange, yellow)
  • Make or buy pretty lightcatchers to charge in the solstice sun
  • Make flower wreaths and flower crowns, or pick fresh flowers for your home or altar.

On the Celtic Moon Calendar, this month was known as the Mother’s Moon.

This moon expresses Mother Earth’s bounty to Her children, a cornucopia of giving characterised by the Goddess in Her form of Mother.

The Mother’s Moon represents the idyllic feeling associated with our youngest happiest memories. When all our needs were provided for and we experienced unconditional love.

  • Mother Love / Father Love
  • Unconditional / Conditional Love
  • Abundance / Scarcity
  • Spiritual Value / Material Value
  • Manifestation / Hope
  • Security / Insecurity

Astrology looks at the movements of the planets in our solar system in relation to earth, and how these heavenly bodies can affect the energies we experience here.

Just like the moon creates the tides of the oceans on earth, so too can these energies have effects on the energy, emotions and desires of the lifeforms on earth.

You can use this knowledge to your advantage by planning around them and taking cues from them.

The Astro Twins say that overall, December looks to be a fairly peaceful and positive month, with just a few relationship speedbumps to be wary of.

“First of all, it’s Sagittarius season until December 21, which is a naturally jovial time once again. And since the year’s eclipses are now in the rearview (whew!), the intense turbulence of 2022 is hopefully behind us as well.”

Spirit Prompts

Our Spirit Prompts section gives you suggestions for the month of things to do to help you connect to and enrich your spiritual world. They tie into the the Wheel of the Year and astrology forecast, to help you make the most of the energies around you.

Take just a ½ hour each week to do one of the 4 activities: Gratitude journal, Ritual, Earth Time and Meditation.

By doing just one, or all of these prompts, you can feel more aligned with your spiritual nature, feel a deeper richness of life and a sense of belonging to something bigger than yourself.

Tapping into gratitude is one of the most powerful transformative energies you can bring into your life – we highly recommend this practice!

Studies have shown that by training your brain to think of things to be grateful for regularly, you can foster a more positive outlook on life in general, as well as become stronger and more resilient to stress and life’s pressures. If you don’t have a journal, then just use a piece of paper.

What of the natural world benefits your life every day, that you are grateful for?

Rituals are not linked to any one religion or religious belief. Rather, ritual and ceremony are acts that can enrich your life and spiritual world.

These practices help you to connect to your spiritual self, stepping outside of the ‘daily grind’ and into a space of magic.

The Summer Solstice is when the sun is at the height of its power. This is a great time to choose some sun-loving crystals to charge in the sun’s energy.

Combine them with seasonal herbs like lavender and rosemary to make yourself a mojo (medicine) bag that can bring warmth and cheer when you are feeling down.

We recommend our HAPPINESS CRYSTAL KIT for this ritual.

  • Gather your herbs. If you don’t have access to fresh growing herbs, you can also just use a pinch of dried herbs from the kitchen 🙂 The herbs add healing and vitality to your medicine bag, so hold that intent in your heart as you collect them.
  • Choose a small bag, a piece of material you can tie up, or even an old sock, to hold your items in.
  • Give everything a good cleanse. You can use Palo Santo or a smudge stick for this. Alternatively, choose an incense that is associated with summer and the sun, something floral or citrus-y. For example, Sri Sai FloraIndian Rose or Lavender Fennel. Waft the smoke over everything and visualise pure white light cleansing it all.
  • Put all your cleansed items into the bag, and place the bag in the light of the sun for the full Solstice day.
  • OPTIONAL: If you have a braai or fire over the December holiday (especially on the Solstice), add a bit of completely cooled ash from the fire the next day, into your bag.
  • Carry the bag with you whenever you are feeling a bit low, and let the joyful feelings of summer holidays, warm sunshine on your skin, fresh summer foods and happy days wash over you.

Our Earth Time segment invites you to engage with our beautiful and precious earth by providing an Earth Healing or Earth Connection activity each month, in line with the energy of the month.

This New Year, consider making a different kind of resolution.

Spend some time thinking about what you could commit to doing in the new year to help the environment. Make a pledge to fulfil that activity or action.

  • Picking up litter once a week (on the beach, in the park, or in your street)
  • Reducing your plastic use by… (be specific e.g. using reusable veggie bags to buy loose veg at the shops instead of pre-packed plastic-wrapped veg.

Meditation helps to calm the mind, lessen anxiety, improve focus and concentration, lower blood pressure – and thousands of other benefits. A regular meditation practice is essential to whole body health.

Our meditation segment gives you inspiration for a meditation tied into the energies and main themes of the month. Use our basic meditation structure to prepare and enter into your meditative state.

This month’s meditation is a guided 15 minute Summer Solstice meditation by the Roaming Yogi, Natalie Perez.

May your month be filled with many merry moments of magick x
