GEOLOGICAL:

Carnelian is a variety of the silica mineral Chalcedony. It ranges in colour from brown, orange, amber-red to red. Which is from the inclusion of iron oxide in the Chacedony. In addition, it’s generally translucent. When there are banded patterns in the material, it can be classified both Carnelian and Agate.

Carnelian shows up in history as far back as early Neolithic times. Further, it gets its name from the Medieval Latin ‘cornum’, referring to the Cornel cherry, whose translucent red fruits resemble the stone.
