SYMBOLISM:
The pentagram is a five-pointed star drawn in one continuous line. This symbol is associated with protective and powerful magickal properties. In East Asian symbolism, the pentagram represents the five elements, also called phases. The five phases are: Fire (火 huǒ), Earth (土 tǔ), Metal (金 jīn), Water (水 shuǐ), and Wood (木 mù).
Celts and Pagans use this symbol to represent their faith as well as a powerful magickal talisman. It also represents the five elements. The pagan five elements are Fire, Earth, Water, Air and Spirit / Aether.
You can find the use of pentagrams in ancient cultures around the world. For example:
- On Sumerian pottery from 3,500 BCE
- The ancient Greeks used this symbol on their coins
- It appears in tombs and seals of Egypt and Mesopotamia
- In Judaism from at least 300 BCE
- It also features in East Asian symbology
