Kambaba Rhyolite Tumbled Stone.

Lovely green hues colouring and beautiful characteristic dark swirling ‘eyes’ with some browns to yellows in the material. Also known as Nebula Stone, for its resemblance to swirling galaxies, or ‘Crocodile Jasper’ for the amphibian eye-like patterns in the material.

GEOLOGICAL:

Kambaba Stone is a type of Rhyolite that occurs only in one place in the world – in a small 6km2 area along the South African Rift to Madagascar. It was originally thought to be a Jasper, or a Stromatolite, and is often still mislabeled as such. However, the EPI-Institute in Germany studied the rock via thin-film and X-ray analysis in 2014. They were thus able to correctly identify it as Rhyolite material, through its microscopic constituents.

Kambaba is in fact a volcanic Rhyolite material, as is the almost identical looking ‘Nebula Stone’ (trade name) of Northern America. Kambaba consists of Quartz, Aegirine, Albite and K Feldspar. The dark swirling ‘eye’ patterns consist of needles of Amphiboles, Riebeckite to Paragasite in composition.
