RARE Spessartine Garnet Polished Slice. Polished slices of orange-brown Spessartine Garnets scattered through a matrix of Aragonite and Calcite. Weight approx 70-80g.

GEOLOGICAL

The Garnet group contains different species that all share similar physical properties and forms, but are different chemically. The members include Pyrope, Almandine, Spessartine, Grossular, Uvarovite, and Andradite. Red Garnet is Pyrope Garnet, a Magnesium Aluminum garnet. The name “pyrope” was derived from the Greek “pyropes”, meaning “fiery-eyed”, in reference to its red colour.
