Red Tiger’s Eye Tumbled Stone. Rich deep red with good chatoyancy, heated material. Some matrix and minor Hematite inclusions variably present. Good to A Grade.
Tiger’s Eye is a pseudomorph of compact Chalcedony Quartz after the fibrous mineral Crocidolite. It is formed when the Quartz takes over and dissolves the Crocidolite, leaving the Quartz in a finely fibrous and chatoyant form. Red Tiger’s Eye, also known as Ox’s Eye or Dragon’s Eye, is Tiger’s Eye with red hues.
While this mineral can form naturally through oxidation, it is very rare. Most Red Tiger’s Eye on the market has been heat-treated to give it a reddish appearance.
