Blue Apatite Crystal Heart 7cm.

Polished blue crystal heart with crackle pattern and some haematoid inclusive colourations. Some nice gemmy areas. From Madagascar. Good to A Grade. Size approx 7cm. Weight approx 351g.

GEOLOGICAL:

Strictly speaking, Apatite is the name of a group of minerals. It was named by A.G. Werner in the mid-1780’s from a derivation of the Greek verb aπasάω, ‘to deceive’, since it has a history of incorrect identification by mineralogists. Madagascar Apatites occur in a beautiful range of blue, green, and yellow hues. Madagascan Apatite is often UV reactive and called Fluorapatite.

The Madagascan deposits that polished material is made from are not extensive nor available in large quantities. The natural material has a green to green blue colour, while the polished material is heat treated to produce the rich intensive gemmy colour.
