GEOLOGICAL:
Chrysoprase is a sought-after green variety of Chalcedony, getting its unique colouring from the presence of Nickel. Varying amounts of Nickel in the Chalcedony cause a beautiful array of colours from pale yellow to dark green in interesting patterns. Due to its beautiful colouring and patterns, Chrysoprase is considered to be the most valuable gemstone in the Chalcedony family.
‘Chrysoprase’ comes from the Greek ‘Chrys’ (meaning gold or yellow) and ‘Prase’ (meaning green). It was favoured among the ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians in jewellery and ornamentation, referred to as “the stone of Venus”.
