Stunning, individually made and perfectly polished! Brightly coloured deep almost black red to orange to peach Carnelian with gorgeous patterns. Some with vugs (“caves”). This is a set of 4 small gallets, each weighing approx 20-40g. From Madagascar. Very Good to A Grade. Choose your set.

 

GEOLOGICAL:

Carnelian is a variety of the silica mineral Chalcedony. It ranges in colour from brown, orange, and amber-red to red. Which is from the inclusion of iron oxide in the Chalcedony. In addition, it’s generally translucent. When there are banded patterns in the material, it can be classified as both Carnelian and Agate.

Carnelian shows up in history as far back as early Neolithic times. It is named from the Medieval Latin ‘cornum’, referring to the Cornel cherry, whose translucent red fruits resemble the stone.
