Orange Twist Calcite Polished Crystal Tower. Gorgeous bright, rich orange Calcite with wavy, whispy patterns (hence the trade name ‘orange twist’). Excellent vivid colour! Wonderful polished finish. From Madagascar. Very Good to A Grade. Size approx 12cm. Weight approx 134g.

 

GEOLOGICAL INFO

Calcite is a carbonate mineral and the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate. Calcite is colourless or white when pure but may be of almost any colour – red, pink, yellow, orange, green, blue, lavender, black, or brown – owing to the presence of various different impurities.

Calcite is best recognized by its relatively low Mohs hardness (3) and its high reactivity with even weak acids, such as vinegar. Natural rough calcite feels smooth and ‘waxy’ to the touch.
