Chevron Amethyst Gallet SML.

Selected Chevron Amethyst individually hand polished to perfection. Lovely deep to lavender purple with some characteristic white quartz banding, in some cases minor haematoid colouration in areas. From Zambia. Good to A Grade. Choose your weight.

GEOLOGICAL:

Chevron Amethyst is also known as Zebra Amethyst, Dream Amethyst or Banded Amethyst. It describes Amethyst and white Quartz layered together in a banded or “V” pattern. This naturally occurring material takes millions of years to form and begins with earthquake and volcanic activity causing cracks in rock deep beneath the earth.

Over time and under the right circumstances, silica-rich fluids from above flow into the crack and cool on the walls. The purple Amethyst sections grow when the silica-rich fluids contain iron molecules, which creates the purple hue. In contrast, the white Quartz grows when iron isn’t present.
