Botryoidal Shattuckite on matrix with a few scatterings of awesome A Grade Diopside crystals – one measuring 6mm! Size approx 5cm. Weight approx 190g.

 

GEOLOGICAL

Shattuckite is a rare copper silicate mineral that is highly regarded for its vivid blue colour. It was named in 1915 after the Shattuck Mine in Bisbee, Arizona where it was discovered. It can occur as granular massive form and also as fibrous acicular crystals.

 

Diopside is a Calcium Magnesium Silicate and part of the pyroxene group. Along with Aegirine, Kunzite, Jadeite and others. It’s generally pale green to grey, but can occur as blue, brown, colourless, snow white, or pale violet.

Colour variations are due to the presence and amounts of various trace elements, most commonly iron. It is sometimes fluorescent. Diopside is sometimes found (in small amounts) in Meteorites.
