Malachite Stalagmite/Stalactite Specimen 7.8cm

(1 customer review)

Very special! Malachite stalagmite/stalactite specimen – the rarest, most desirable and collectable formation of Malachite! From Kolwezi, Congo. Very Good to A Grade. Size 7.8cm. Weight 111g.

Malachite is a green copper carbonate hydroxide mineral. It was one of the first ores used to produce copper metal, and was cited as early as 79CE by Pliny the Elder, who referred to the mineral as ‘Molochitus’. In 1661 the spelling was revised to ‘Malachite’ as it is known today. Collectible specimens of Malachite have various categories and characteristics that are looked for, including colour, chatoyancy and habit. Botryoidal material is the most commonly available formation, while silky/fibrous is far harder to get hold of, and lastly Stalactite/Stalagmite specimens are the most rare and collectable.
