Rare Demantoid Garnet Cluster 10cm

Small green Demantoid garnets with lovely rich green colour in a matrix. A very cool rare specimen from an excellent locality for the collectors! From Green Dragon Mine, Erongo. Good Grade. Size approx 10cm. Weight approx 389g.

 

“Few crystals show a wider variation with a complex zoning ranging from pure andradite to almost pure grossular. As inclusion were found diopside (XMg 0.92-0.95), wollastonite, quartz, calcite and sphalerite. GEOLOGICAL

The Garnet group contains different species that all share similar physical properties and forms, but are different chemically. The members include Pyrope, Almandine, Spessartine, Grossular, Uvarovite and Andradite.

Demantoid Garnet is vivid green in colour. It’s considered one of the most valuable and rare stones in the gemological world. It is a calcium- and iron-rich garnet, with chromium creating the green colour.
