Natural, extra rare, perfect lustrous silver-red Cuprite crystals in a beautiful triangular cluster. Perched on a bed of Stellar Beam Calcite in association with minor Chrysocolla. Exceptionally rare classic minerals for the collectors. From Tenke Fungurume. Good to A Grade. Size approx 9.5cm. Weight approx 494g.

 

GEOLOGICAL:

Cuprite is an important collector’s mineral and a minor ore of Copper. Cuprite is named for the Latin cuprum, “copper”, in allusion to its copper content. It can form as bright transparent red crystals, or as lustrous, submetallic opaque crystals.

A secondary mineral often formed by the weathering of copper sulfide minerals, Cuprite is widespread as brilliant crystals, grains, or earthy masses in the oxidized zone of copper lodes.

 

Stellar Beam Calcite, also known as Dogtooth Calcite or Dogtooth Spar, is a variety of Calcite that forms as multiple scalenohedral crystals. Popular among collectors, it forms in open spaces such as limestone caves, geodes and veins.
