Natural cobbed rough piece of Amazonite. A stone sealant seals the stone’s surface and brings out the beautiful turquoise colour. The material occurs with occasional minor intrusive sections of Smoky Quartz, platy black Mica and/or white Orthoclase. From Madagascar. Good Grade. Size approx 6cm. Weight approx 128g.

 

GEOLOGICAL:

Amazonite varies in colour from very light jade-green to turquoise, usually with white mottling, and sometimes with some brown staining. This tectosilicate mineral usually derives its colour from the inclusion of lead. Sometimes a pearlescent shimmer is visible on the surface of the stone. Amazonite is part of the Feldspar group, usually microcline, else orthoclase.

Also known as Amazon Jade or Amazon Stone, it was named after the Amazon river. Cultures in Northern Africa, Mesopotamia, and the Indus Valley had begun cutting Amazonites as early as 5,200 BCE.
