GEOLOGICAL
Carrollite is a rare Copper Cobalt sulphide, sometimes Nickel bearing. Its colour is a bright metallic silver to grey, while rarely tarnishing to an orange-red colour. Carrollite forms in hydrothermal vein deposits, occurring in massive and granular forms. Rarely, it forms lustrous cubo-octahedral crystals, which are highly desired among collectors.
The most beautiful crystals of Carrollite come from the Copper and Cobalt deposits of Katanga in DR Congo. It often occurs with Calcite and Chalcopyrite. Carrollite gets its name from William Faber, who identified it in Carroll County, USA in 1852.
