Yellow Calcite Ball Cluster 2.5cm

Awesome little lustrous formation of yellow Calcite, with a surprise pale pink Manganocalcite underneath. Good to A Grade. From N`Chwaning II, Northern Cape, South Africa. Size approx 2.8cm. Weight approx 12g.

 

GEOLOGICAL:

Calcite is a carbonate mineral and the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate. Calcite is colourless or white when pure but may be of almost any colour – red, pink, yellow, orange, green, blue, lavender, black, or brown – owing to the presence of various different impurities.

Calcite is best recognized by its relatively low Mohs hardness (3) and its high reactivity with even weak acids, such as vinegar. Natural rough Calcite feels smooth and ‘waxy’ to the touch.

Mangano Calcite is a Magnesium included Calcite, which creates its characteristic pink hue.
