Beautiful sparkling golden Pyrite cluster in cubic to octahedral formation. From Peru. Good to A Grade. Size approx 4cm.

GEOLOGICAL

Pyrite is a metallic iron sulfide. The name comes from the Greek word pyr, meaning ‘fire’, because it emits sparks when hit with metal. Nodules of Pyrite have been found in prehistoric burial mounds, suggesting they were once used to start fires using the sparks.

It is also known as ‘Fools Gold’ because of its superficial resemblance to gold. Pyrite is widely available and occurs in many different settings.
