Fantastic well-defined orthorhombic crystals of Libethenite. With a deep green to almost black hue. On a Dolomite matrix. Generally, only a handful of these specimens come up a year. Exceptionally rare and very collectable! From Shituru, Congo. A Grade. Size approx 7.5cm. Weight approx 87g.

 

GEOLOGICAL

Libethenite is a rare secondary Copper Phosphate mineral generally found in oxidized Copper deposits. The phosphate is often from the weathering of Apatite and other rock-forming phosphates. It was first discovered in Ľubietová (aka Libethen), Slovakia in 1823.

It forms striking translucent green orthorhombic crystals. The colour can vary from light green to almost black, sometimes with an olive or blueish hue.
