Red Calcite Natural Rough Piece. This red Calcite is a deep maroon red to rust colour with minor black or brown inclusions. Mostly opaque but good colour saturation. Rough natural cobbed pieces. Good Grade.

 

GEOLOGICAL:

Calcite is a carbonate mineral and the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate. Calcite is colourless or white when pure but may be of almost any colour – red, pink, yellow, orange, green, blue, lavender, black, or brown – owing to the presence of various different impurities.

Calcite is best recognized by its relatively low Mohs hardness (3) and its high reactivity with even weak acids, such as vinegar. Natural rough calcite feels smooth and ‘waxy’ to the touch.
