Green Calcite Natural Rough Piece.

These pieces are a light sea green colour, often with some white or brown staining. Lovely translucency and good cleavage. This colour is also referred to as ‘Emerald Green Calcite’ or ‘Pistachio Calcite’. Very pretty! Good to A Grade.

 

GEOLOGICAL:

Calcite is a carbonate mineral and the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate. Calcite is colourless or white when pure but may be of almost any colour – red, pink, yellow, orange, green, blue, lavender, black, or brown – owing to the presence of various different impurities.

Calcite is best recognized by its relatively low Mohs hardness (3) and its high reactivity with even weak acids, such as vinegar. Natural rough calcite feels smooth and ‘waxy’ to the touch.
