Also known as Zomba crystal specimen. Consisting of lustrous dar Aegirine rods, snow white Orthoclase and perfect clarity Smoky Quartz points in complex arrangement. From Zomba, Malawi. Good to A Grade. Size approx 5cm. Weight approx 25cm.
GEOLOGICAL:
‘Zomba Crystal’ is a trade name given to a range of minerals associated to the Zomba Plateau in Malawi. Consisting of various associations and complex formations. Orthoclase is a primary matrix. With Smoky Quartz, Aegirine & Zircon being the most commonly occurring species.
Smoky Quartz from the region ranges from swirling gemmy hues, to dark Morion and even pitch black. Aegirine inclusions are very common. Whilst you see Riebeckite and Rutile inclusions less often. Recent pockets are also showing some green Chlorite inclusions or phantoms.
