Encyclopedia of over 100 crystal formations – how to identify them, and what their associated healing properties are.

INTRODUCTION

A crystal’s external shape or configuration can affect the manner in which it disperses energy around it, as well as how it changes energy as the energy moves through it. 

We know through the collective spiritual study by shamans, medicine peoples, and spiritual leaders spanning over the centuries, that different crystals have different energetic properties. In other words, we have a collective database of energetic properties for most known crystals. The same is true for crystal shapes and formations, although this is much less discussed.

Here, we are going to delve into the fascinating world of advanced crystal formations. 

I first began this list of crystal formations and their properties in around 2010/2011. I’ve since endeavoured to update and add to it. The information in this list is a collection of wisdom shared by teachers and crystal leaders around the world, as well as my own knowledge and experiences throughout the years.

I would like to give special thanks and acknowledgement to the work of the late Judy Hall, who first introduced me to Quartz crystal formations and inspired this life long passion.

CRYSTAL FORMATIONS: A

8-FACETED

IDENTIFICATION:

A crystal with eight faces (facets) instead of the normal six.

PROPERTIES:

This crystal is associated with prosperity, success and accomplishment. It’s also said to balance a desire for material things with spiritual growth.

ABUNDANCE

IDENTIFICATION:

One long crystal with many smaller crystals clustered around it at its base.

PROPERTIES:

These crystals foster prosperity, well-being, success and good fortune. All the good things in life! Position an Abundance Crystal in the wealth corner of your home or office (this is the furthest back left corner from the front door).

ARTEMIS

AKA: DIANA, ELONGATED GENERATOR

IDENTIFICATION:

A long crystal with a sharp, undamaged point, resembling an arrow (length to width ratio of 6 to 1 or greater). Also see Wand.

PROPERTIES:

Supportive of those who are struggling for independence of all kinds. Goddess energy.

ASTERISM

AKA: STAR, ASTERATED

IDENTIFICATION:

A star crystal has a naturally occurring 4 or 6 ray star which appears when held in direct light. The effect is usually caused through reflection of light by thin, fibrous or needle-like inclusions that lie in various directions within the mineral. Mostly visible on cabochons and spheres.

PROPERTIES:

This crystal’s energy is said to bring the light of Source or Universal energy, integrating it with the light of the inner self, allowing you to speak, act and perform the will of the Divine.

CRYSTAL FORMATIONS: B

BARNACLE

AKA: N/A

IDENTIFICATION:

A crystal with one or several sides partially or completely covered by many very small crystals clustered along the surface, giving an appearance of barnacles over the surface of a rock. 

PROPERTIES:

The larger crystal is an old soul and contains wisdom and trust, representing a leader. This crystal can be used in meditation to provide insights to family and/or community problems. This type of crystal is excellent for those employed by service organizations. Its energy helps to stimulate a group cohesiveness and a willingness to work together. A Barnacle crystal is also a soothing companion when you are experiencing the loss of a loved one.

BRIDGE

AKA: INNER CHILD, TRIGGER, PENETRATOR

IDENTIFICATION:

The Bridge crystal is recognized by a small crystal which penetrates and is located partially in, and partially out of, a larger crystal. It may or may not pass through and come out the other side.

PROPERTIES:

It facilitates bridging between the inner and outer worlds, the self and others, and between this and other worlds / planes / dimensions. The Bridge crystal aids in expressing personal growth experiences as you become more self-aware, and helping you integrate your experiences. It is beneficial for those working within the spiritual and metaphysical realms, and assisting others and/or communicating information across. In a similar way, the Bridge is helpful to public speakers who lecture on topics concerning new ideas and concepts. It is useful for all types of teaching, promoting communication and understanding between teacher and student.

CRYSTAL FORMATIONS: C

CANDLE

AKA: PINEAPPLE

IDENTIFICATION:

Usually a white/milk Quartz point, fairly chubby, cocooned by a secondary coat of terminations on all sides of the length growing in parallel to the point. 

ALTERNATIVE:

Also refers to a crystal with terminations as described which grew simultaneously to the main point, and look like copies of the main point.

PROPERTIES:

This ancient crystal is extremely grounding and calming. Excellent for earth healing work. The Candle crystal is said to be able to facilitate a rebirth, allowing you to shed self-destructive tendencies, addictions and patterns that no longer serve your Highest good. An excellent stone for new beginnings of all kinds.

CARVED (NATURAL)

AKA: N/A

IDENTIFICATION:

The natural carved crystal has a carved/etched triangle which outlines the face. The engraved/indented area is usually white. 

PROPERTIES:

This crystal is said to help connect you to star people information that is beneficial in some way to your growth. It fosters increased awareness of earth. It is a tool for the transfer of information between the self and those on other planes of existence. In addition, this crystal is said to aid receiving information related to earth changes, astrological significance, and weather patterns. It’s been used for dowsing.

CATHEDRAL

AKA: N/A

IDENTIFICATION:

A crystal with multiple terminations that when held upright it resembles the spires and towers of a cathedral. 

ALTERNATIVE:

Can also refer to a fairly rare formation, a crystal that has no upper dividing line between the facet and one of its sides (often found as the opposite side of the receiver face of a Receiver crystal). It is part of the elestial family. 

PROPERTIES:

Shares all the properties of Elestials. Brilliant for working with and healing all issues and wounds related to the past, including childhood trauma, past lives, and so on. The crystals that form this arrangement are similar to databanks in the sense that they contain universal knowledge. These crystals are capable of receiving and relaying information, as open databanks can have conscious thought and intentions projected into them. Collective consciousness, collective thought forms. Lightbraries contain the sacred knowledge of the Akashic Records.

CELESTIAL

AKA: CASCADING

IDENTIFICATION:

Another Elestial family member. This Elestial is a bright white to translucent crystal with tons of smaller crystals running up from the base to the faces of the main termination. The smaller crystals are tabbies, all face upwards and overlap one another in a complete covering of the primary crystal’s length. Often have phantoms. Very beautiful, sparkly white crystals. This particular Elestial formation name was first given to a small pocket of Quartz that was found in Madagascar, which emptied in 2019.

PROPERTIES:

The Celestial is a massive energy generator and transmutor. Very connected to light energy (Divine Source) and the Angelic Realm. As with Cathedrals and Elestials in general, the smaller crystals contain information (whether personal, global or galactic). This crystal formation is particularly suited to work with the earth’s light web, collective consciousness shifting and healing on a large scale.
