What is Amethyst?
Amethyst is Quartz with trace elements of iron (and/or other transition metals and trace elements) that has been naturally irradiated by surrounding rock, transforming it into the various shades of purple, violet and lavender we see.
It gets its name from the Greek ‘amethystos’ which translates to ‘not intoxicate’, referencing the old belief that Amethyst can protect its owner from drunkenness.
It’s commonly found in points, clusters and geodes.
